That’s the inspiration behind DIY CON, a first-of-its-kind festival taking place this November in Dallas where do-it-yourself enthusiasts of every experience level can build new skills through hands-on workshops, interactive demonstrations, expert-led sessions and an expansive marketplace—all under one roof. A slew of popular makers and DIYers who’ve built dedicated followings by sharing their know-how online will be in attendance offering their expertise. The hosts of Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, are headlining the event, and husband-and-wife team Mr. Kate will bring their humor and approachable design sense to the main stage on Friday. But these won’t be the typical “walk-by” booths you find at traditional trade shows. Here, you’ll also be able to test-drive tools and products before you buy. There will be designated testing stations, and vendors like SKIL power tools and Rockler Woodworking & Hardware will offer demos and hands-on displays that you won’t find at a big-box store.
