Ramping Up the Comfy Cozy

Ways to stay comfy cozy this winter. The first way is to layer your bedding.

Refreshing a bedroom in an hour that will have you and/or overnight guests feel right at home starting with a comfy cozy bed, bedding and small thoughtful touches.

Four years ago this month we moved to our house on the lake. It was the best decision as we love where we live and love every inch of our 1970’s house that I have been updating and making over room by room to make each one to fit my decorating style.

I am very happy with the decorating transformation of every room, but for the holidays I did want to make one change to one of the guests rooms.

Since Ed and I are empty nesters and our house has 3 bedrooms, we made two of these rooms into guests rooms.

For one of the rooms I added a more masculine vibe, the other, more feminine. The more masculine room feels visually warmer and has soft, thick and plush bedding. It also has a king size bed and when we give guests the option to stay in either room, they always opt for the cozier feel of the masculine navy and green room.

The more feminine room is bright, colorful and cheery. It is comfortable, but when the temps drop come winter, the space feels visually cool and the bedding is light weight. Perfect for summer, but not very inviting when it starts to get chilly.

Over the holidays we will be hosting a few friends and family and I want both rooms to be extra comfy cozy. It was time to ramp up the comfy cozy factor in the more feminine room.

I was just beginning my search for new heavyweight bedding for the bed in the room when I learned that Kohl’s has a new line of bedding made by CuddlDuds. Yes – the same company that makes long underwear and sleepwear is now bringing that same cozy comfort factor to your home with a line of bedding that is just as soft and warm.

The masculine guest room has navy and green plaid flannel sheets and a thick down comforter. It also has an extra layer of a soft throw at the end of the bed for an afternoon nap.

I wanted to create this same comfy feel and layering of the bedding for the feminine room, but didn’t want to use the same color scheme, but was envisioning plaid bedding.

To make the bed in the guest room feel more inviting and cozy, I layered the bedding for maximum comfort. I bought a Red Khaki Plaid Comforter Set, mircofiber sheets and a fleece throw.

The comforter set came with a comforter, 2 shams and the Let’s Get Cozy accent pillow.

I didn’t have to DIY anything! 🙂

Last weekend after getting the new bedding on the bed, I decided to sleep in the room to see if the room was comfy or needed anything to make a guest feel at home.

Thoughtfully placed items of comfort will make any space more welcoming. I made sure the room had:

  • Enough light by the bed.
  • An extension cord on each side of the bed for phones to charge.
  • Snack packs sizes of nuts, chips and fruit on the dresser.
  • Throw blanket at the end of the bed for an extra layer for snuggling.
  • The WIFI password in clear view.
  • Soft surfaces to sit on.
  • Empty space in the closet for suitcases and to hang clothes if needed.
  • Hooks to hang wet bath towels. Needed if the bath will be shared with other guests.
  • Bottles of water.
  • Night light in hallway. Helps guests navigate at night in an unfamiliar surroundings.

I was very comfortable sleeping in the room and it was very pleasant waking up in the morning as the room has the best view of the lake in the house. 🙂

I love the cozy feel of the CuddleDuds bedding and how it has warmed up the room.

Along the back wall for the previous bedding color scheme I had created solid color canvases to create a colorful accent wall.

For the winter months, I removed the “cool” color canvases and kept the 3 warmer color canvases. I just placed them behind the bed to emphasize the headboard.

Seeing how these colors look, has me thinking about painting the entire wall using one of the colors to create an accent wall like I did in the other guest room.

That may not happen before the holidays, but I am seriously considering doing it as it will surely add to the warm, comfy-cozy factor of the room.
