When it comes to decorating your mantel for the holidays, Saab says you should always leave room for creativity. Picking a theme can work well, but avoid a matchy-matchy look.
The designer suggests starting with an anchor piece—think statement garland, a unique piece of artwork, or even sculptural candlesticks that “can set the tone without locking you into a rigid theme.”
From there, you can weave in additional elements to make the look feel cohesive. “Once the anchor is chosen, layer in supporting pieces that feel related in spirit rather than identical in style. When you have a solid base, you’ll find it easier to introduce new accent items or completely change the direction of your mantel decor from year to year. This gives the mantel a collected, effortless feel instead of a staged one,” Saab says.
