      Dezeen Awards China 2023 interiors shortlist revealed

      Dezeen has announced the 28-strong interiors shortlist for the inaugural Dezeen Awards China, which includes projects by FOG Architecture, UNStudio and Atelier d’More.

      The shortlisted projects, which are in the running for awards in six different interiors project categories, represent the most striking interiors recently created in the country.
      Among the projects, which are located in 14 different cities across China, is a Spanish restaurant in a former prison, a hostel on Shanghai’s Chongming Island that integrates local materials and an office space with mottled concrete walls and exposed steel frames.
      The shortlist also features a library with a sweeping wooden bookshelf and a clothing store informed by local markets.
      Dezeen Awards China 2023 shortlists revealed this week

      The shortlisted projects were scored by our interior jury which includes interior architect André Fu, Hong Kong-based Alex Mok, US interior designer Kelly Wearstler, Studioilse founder Ilse Crawford and Li Xiang of X+Living.
      This is the first edition of Dezeen Awards China, which is in partnership with Bentley Motors. The architecture shortlist was published on Monday and following the interiors shortlist, the projects shortlisted in the design and China designers of the year categories will be unveiled tomorrow and Thursday respectively.

      The winner of each interiors project category will be announced at a party in Shanghai in December, with the six winners competing for the title of Chinese interiors project of the year, which is sponsored by Gaggenau.

The annual awards are in partnership with Bentley Motors, as part of a wider collaboration that will see the brand work with Dezeen to support and inspire the next generation of design talent in China.

      Dezeen Awards China 2023 architecture shortlist revealed

      Dezeen has announced the 34-strong architecture shortlist for the inaugural Dezeen Awards China, which includes buildings by Trace Architecture Office, AIM Architecture and Thomas Heatherwick.

      The shortlisted projects, which are in the running for awards in seven different architecture project categories, represent the best buildings recently created in the country.
      Among the projects, which are located in 21 different cities across China, is a viewing tower at a panda sanctuary, the 1000 Trees shopping centre in Shanghai by UK-based Heatherwick Studio and an art museum in Tibet.
      The shortlist also features an abandoned wooden home that was renovated with 3D-printed walls and the Dance of Light skyscraper by Aedas.

      The shortlisted projects were selected by a jury that includes architects Ole Scheeran, Ma Yansong, Rossana Hu, Garett Hwang and Ting Yu.
      This is the first edition of Dezeen Awards China, which is in partnership with Bentley Motors. Following the architecture shortlist, the projects shortlisted in the design, interiors and China designers of the year categories will be unveiled throughout the week.

      This week we unveiled the Dezeen Awards 2023 shortlists

      This week on Dezeen, we announced the architecture, interiors, design and sustainability shortlists along with the designers of the year for the 2023 Dezeen Awards.

      We revealed the 85 buildings shortlisted in the architecture categories, which included Studio House by William Samuels Architects (above) along with buildings by Zaha Hadid Architects, Olson Kundig and Open Architecture.
      The interiors shortlist featured 47 designs by studios including Omar Gandhi Architects and Universal Design Studio, while the 47-strong design shortlist included creations by Muoto, Luceplan, Fuseproject and Tom Dixon.
      Alexander Burton designed an affordable electric car conversion kitIn design news, Australian student Alexander Burton unveiled an affordable electric car conversion kit.
      Named REVR (Rapid Electric Vehicle Retrofits), the kit, which won the country’s national James Dyson Award, was designed to provide a cheaper way to convert petrol cars into electric cars.

      Thomas Heatherwick said Le Corbusier was to blame for a “global blandemic”Speaking on a BBC radio series this week, British designer Thomas Heatherwick said that 20th-century architect Le Corbusier was responsible for architecture’s current “global blandemic”.
      “I think we’re living through a global ‘blandemic’ in building design,” said Heatherwick. “This age of boring has resulted in soulless, inhuman urban environments.”
      Prada is designing a space suit for NASAAlso this week, fashion house Prada revealed that it was creating lunar spacesuits for NASA’s Artemis III mission – the first crewed moon landing since 1972.
      Developed with commercial space company Axiom Space, the suits are called Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) and will give astronauts “advanced capabilities for space exploration”, according to the brand.
      Carl Philip Bernadotte and Oscar Kylberg launched their brand this weekWe also spoke to design duo Carl Philip Bernadotte – who is Prince Carl Philip of Sweden – and Oscar Kylberg, who launched a brand this week.
      Speaking in an interview, the duo told Dezeen how public scrutiny had kept them on their toes.

      Dezeen Awards 2023 interiors longlist revealed

      Dezeen has announced the 150 projects longlisted for this year’s Dezeen Awards in the interior categories, including interiors by studios Olson Kundig, Neri&Hu, Patricia Urquiola and Morris+Company.

      The 150 longlisted projects, which are in the running for awards in nine different interior project categories, are by studios located across 32 different countries including India, Slovakia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark and Latvia.
      The top three represented studio countries are the UK, with 27 longlisted entries, followed by the US with 23 and Australia with 15.
      The top project city locations are London, with 18 longlisted entries, followed by Shanghai with seven and Sydney and Paris tied with four each.
      Amongst the longlisted interiors this year are a refurbished 280-year-old courtyard house in Beijing, a textured beige ceramic home interior in Kyiv and a playful red brick-clad rooftop cafe in South Korea’s Gyeonggi-do province.

      Other longlisted projects include a monochromatic office in Barcelona, a restaurant with a curved metal-mesh ceiling in London and a retail space featuring salvaged and biomaterials.
      All Dezeen Awards 2023 longlists revealed this week
      Dezeen Awards 2023, in partnership with Bentley Motors, will reveal all longlisted projects this week. The architecture longlist was published yesterday and the design longlist will be announced tomorrow, followed by the sustainability longlist on Thursday.
      Longlisted projects have been selected from over 4,800 entries from 94 countries for the sixth edition of our awards programme, which celebrates the world’s best architecture, interiors and design, as well as the studios and individuals producing the most outstanding work.

Photo by Vinciane LebrunThe next stage of Dezeen Awards 2023 will see all longlisted projects assessed by our international jury of leading professionals including interior designers Eny Lee Parker, Nick Jones and Tola Ojuolape.
      The judges will determine the projects that feature on the shortlists, which will be announced in October. A further round of judging by our master jury will determine the winners, which will be announced in November.
      One of the nine winners of the interior project categories will then be crowned the overall interior project of the year.
